Macadamia nuts would be at the top of the list of foods I’d want to have for my “last supper”. While I’ve always enjoyed their flavour, it was legendary performance coach Charles Poliquin who made me aware of their incredible health benefits. Here are five evidence-based reasons why you should consider adding macadamia nuts to your nutrition plan:

1. Heart Healthy: Macadamia nuts are loaded with monounsaturated fats, like those found in olive oil. These healthy fats can help to improve lipid profiles, and regular consumption can contribute to a lower risk of heart disease and stroke.

2. Nutrient Powerhouse: Macadamia nuts are rich in antioxidants, including vitamin E, flavonoids, and selenium, which combat oxidative stress and inflammation in the body. This antioxidant activity can protect against cellular damage and reduce the risk of chronic diseases, including cancer, Alzheimer’s, and heart disease.

3. Bone Health Booster: Rich in minerals like magnesium, calcium, and potassium, macadamia nuts support bone health. These minerals contribute to the formation and maintenance of bone structure, helping to prevent osteoporosis and ensuring that your bones stay strong and healthy as you age into your wisdom years.

4. Brain Health Support The omega-9 monounsaturated fat, oleic acid, found in macadamia nuts, plays a vital role in brain health. It supports brain function and can help enhance mood, prevent cognitive decline, and protect against neurological diseases.

5. Skin Health: The fatty acids in macadamia nuts are not just good for your insides; they’re also fantastic for your skin. They help to moisturize and restore the skin, as well as promote skin healing.

From protecting the heart, to enhancing brain function and supporting skin health, macadamia nuts are a versatile addition to any longevity-focused nutrition plan. For a kickstart to your morning, try a combo of steak with a handful of macadamia nuts. This breakfast is both high in protein and healthy fats, and also delivers sustained energy throughout the day.
